When it comes to a premier partner in the service, repair and installation of all fire safety equipment and systems, people turn to Onyx-Fire Protection Services Inc. The brand has built a reputation and customer service standard that their clients trust. And when Onyx-Fire needed a partner of their own to protect their data, they chose TELUS Digital's Amazon Web Services (AWS) Operations Management.
The challenge
Proactive in protecting their clients from fires, Onyx-Fire was looking to take a similar approach in safeguarding their data. They sought an experienced partner to enhance their preparedness, both in terms of technology and strategy. Fully briefed and aligned, TELUS Digital needed to establish important fail-safes for their data center, including external backup processes and a disaster recovery (DR) environment.
The TELUS Digital solution
As soon as Onyx-Fire partnered with TELUS Digital, establishing a DR environment was set as a priority. It was imperative to introduce continuous data protection technology that would reliably replicate business critical data. And for that, the solution was to pair Zerto data backup and recovery software with AWS cloud, including Amazon's Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3).
The AWS object storage service offers industry-leading scalability, data availability, security and performance. By leveraging Amazon S3, the TELUS Digital team built DR architectures that can quickly and easily recover from outages caused by natural disasters, system failures and human errors.
TELUS Digital's implementation exhibits a low Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) — metrics that measure the time when the data was last preserved in a usable format. As a result of the strategies and technologies deployed by TELUS Digital, there would be minimal data loss in the event of an incident.
Eager to let Onyx-Fire focus on what they do best, the technology is fully managed by TELUS Digital. To offer peace of mind, TELUS Digital monitors the environment, manages workloads and provides suggestions for further optimization.
The results
- A robust disaster recovery environment leveraging AWS cloud
- Essential backup processes, including the ability to failover business critical applications — ensuring Onyx-Fire could be back online in hours rather than weeks in the event of an incident
- Addition of AWS Workspaces, a virtual desktop platform that enables end users to connect from anywhere, and on most platforms, to the DR environment
- Around-the-clock support for AWS related requests and issues
- Peace of mind and the potential for continuous improvement as a fully managed program by TELUS Digital
