Every trust and safety team builds tools and infrastructure, and most of it looks remarkably similar: rules engines, review queues, escalation workflows and reporting pipelines. Yet teams keep building these systems from scratch or buying proprietary vendor solutions, spending engineering bandwidth on undifferentiated infrastructure instead of the policy logic and platform-specific customization that actually matters.
With open-source trust and safety tooling now running in production at scale, this panel brings together practitioners at different stages of adoption to examine where the line really falls between commodity infrastructure and genuine platform differentiation. Panelists include a team migrating from a proprietary vendor to an open-source review console built from the same original codebase; a platform that donated its internal rules engine to open source, then re-adopted the improved community version; and a company adopting OSS tooling from the start without ever building custom systems.

Mitigating hiring risk: A three-stage, zero-bias recruitment approach for trust and safety workforces
What if trust and safety teams could prevent psychological harm by better identifying the right candidates before their first day on the job?
While trust and safety and GenAI roles expose workers to sustained emotional risk, traditional recruitment rarely assesses a candidate’s ability to perform this work safely or provides the data needed to mitigate organizational risk.
This session introduces a three-stage, zero-bias discovery model — built on the CCR3 Discovery Process® — designed to embed well-being and resilience directly into the hiring workflow. Moving beyond traditional psychometrics, this model evaluates:
- Emotional intelligence: Decision-making and judgment under pressure
- Values: Drivers of ethical behavior and engagement
- Behaviors: How internal thinking translates into action
The result is a mathematically validated assessment of stability, resilience and role fit, purpose-built for trust and safety environments. Over a three-year deployment, this model has delivered a 92.7% reduction in sickness absence and 55% lower voluntary attrition compared to candidates hired without this tool.

A Chartered Psychologist and HCPC registered practitioner, Dr. Rattrie brings over twenty years of experience across the private sector, government, business schools and the United Nations. She also completed a PhD in psychosocial risk management and is qualified in performance, health and stress executive coaching through the British Psychological Association. Dr. Rattrie specializes in developing global well-being strategies and implementing psychological health and safety frameworks.
